SHANGHAI, Thursday.

A telegram from Suiyuan states that a Bel- gian priest, Father Achille Soenr, was shot and killed at Hokiao, when the town was looted and plundered by bandits. Hie companion, the Rev. Joseph Loemans, escaped.-Reuter.

HONG KONG, Thursday.

The recent recrudescence of piracy, as shown in the case of the Hydrangea, formerly a British sloop, which was seized and looted by Chinese piratea travelling as passengers in December last, has attracted public attention, and efforts are now being made to secure practical co- operation between Canton and Hong Kong with view to the suppression of piraoy in Kwanturg waters. There is every bope of such co-opera- top materialising, which is regarded as the first visible evidence of goodwill and cordipiftola tions between Hong Kong and Cantoù, from which econom benefits are anticipated.- Reuter.
